As the race for president speeds up and candidates are whittled down to the final two delegates from both parties, it’s important to start taking an even closer look at the substance of each candidate’s claims and backgrounds.
Although Senator Obama has put on a clean face to the world and enhanced his bright image by coming clean with the American public concerning some issues, such as his heavy drug and cocaine use as a college student, this doesn’t mean that he’s been honest in everything, and in fact some recently uncovered facts by the Times indicates that indeed, Obama is not as honest as his big smile and family figure would like to project.
Although Obama most likely is a good person at heart, his need for cash in the past has proved too much temptation and has caused him to bend, if not break the rules of ethical campaign finance etiquette.
For instance, a short time after becoming Senator for Illinois, Obama bought $50,000 in stocks of two companies whose major investors just happened to be some of his biggest campaign donors. Additionally, one of those investors, Jared Abbruzzese, is currently under FBI investigation because he is suspected of bribing New York senate majority leader Joseph Bruno to use taxpayer money to fund one of Abbruzzeses’s companies.
Obama also sold land to a Chicago developer who was a significant contributor to the Obama campaign as well. In addition, Obama has claimed in the past that he does not accept money from lobbyists, but records clearly indicate that he has accepted over $141,000 from lobbyists.
These actions alone indicate a troubling trend of Obama's to sweep little "white" lies and ethical troubles under the rug, but that could easily speak of deeper problems.
